New electric Porsche makes mincemeat of Tesla Model S Plaid

New electric Porsche makes mincemeat of Tesla Model S plaid

The Tesla Model S Plaid is a premium electric family car. But it seems that Elon Musk’s lightning-fast electric vehicle has to face a new, faster variant of the Porsche Taycan. A pre-production version of the electric car is leaving the Tesla to gather dust.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is a crazy family electric vehicle that easily makes life difficult for the most expensive supercars, as we discovered in the Autovisie supertest. The only electric cars that have been able to make things difficult for the 1,020 hp Model S Plaid have so far been hypercars like the Rimac Nevera.

Elon Musk’s Tesla Model S is more than a drag racer

More directly, there’s an electric sedan that manages to trump the Tesla: the Lucid Air Sapphire, an even more powerful Air variant than the outgoing Dream Edition. However, the impressive thing about the Tesla Model S Plaid is that after checking the optional Track Pack, it can no longer just drive in a straight line.

“The Plaid with Track Pack is much more than a simple drag racer. Strong brakes, a stable chassis and adjustable drive and recuperation forces lead to fantastic performance and real driving pleasure,” summed up driver Peter Kox about Elon Musk’s horsepower monster at the Autovisie Supertest.

Nürburgring record devoured by Porsche Taycan

The Tesla has already proven this on the infamous Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, a nearly 21-kilometer-long track where car manufacturers test their cars to the limit and then brag about the results. The Tesla Model S Plaid managed to complete a lap of the winding track in just 7 minutes and 25 seconds. This made it the fastest electric production car of all time on the Nordschleife.

This lap time has now been destroyed by a pre-production version of the new Porsche Taycan. This electric car drove the snot out of the German racetrack, clocking a time of 7 minutes and 7 seconds. Almost 18 seconds faster than Elon Musk’s Tesla Model S Plaid!

26 seconds faster than before

Out of excitement, Porsche has already shared this lap time without mentioning too much other information about the lightning-fast electric vehicle. The lap time is around 26 seconds faster than that of the current top model: the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and is even very close to the 7 minutes and 5 seconds that the almost 2,000 hp Rimac Nevera was able to achieve. We’ll have to wait until March for the German automaker to reveal more information about the updated Porsche Taycan.
