Xiaomi’s first car features a V6 that doesn’t require fuel
Earlier this week we showed off a new car from smartphone maker Huawei. Now there’s another tech brand with a car before Apple. This is the SU7 from Xiaomi. And it has a V6. Although that’s not what you think.
You may not know Xiaomi, although it is not an unknown brand in our country. The manufacturer’s phones are for sale everywhere in our country. No wonder, because it is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world.
Xiaomi’s first car
As a Chinese manufacturer, you naturally want to be one step ahead of other tech giants like Apple. What is striking is that the brand’s first model is actually sold under the name Xiaomi and does not use a similar design to Huawei.
The electric car, on the other hand, has not yet been completely developed in-house. BAIC builds the car with batteries from Catl and BYD in the underbody.
A V6?
The Xiaomi SU7 is available in two versions. The entry-level car has rear-wheel drive and produces 299 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The all-wheel drive with two electric motors produces 673 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The top speed of the cheapest variant is 210 kilometers per hour. The top model only stops accelerating at 265 kilometers per hour.
A 73.6 kWh battery from BYD or a 101 kWh battery from Catl is connected to the electric motors. The entry-level car with the small battery pack can travel 668 kilometers according to the Chinese measurement method. The all-wheel drive with the large battery pack can then travel 800 kilometers, same measuring method.
Production of the Xiaomi SU7 is scheduled to begin in the first six months of 2024. It remains to be seen whether the fully electric car will also come to the Netherlands. If you want to stay informed about all the automotive news as quickly as possible, subscribe to the Autovisie WhatsApp channel.
