The electric GMC Sierra EV also trumps the Tesla Cybertruck!

The electric GMC Sierra EV also trumps the Tesla Cybertruck!

Would Elon Musk still worry? The Tesla Cybertruck will soon be one of the last electric pickups in a high-traffic segment. The Ford F-150 Lightning, the GMC Hummer EV, the Chevrolet Silverado EV, the Rivian R1T and this GMC Sierra EV already drive in it.

To put the GMC Sierra EV in context, the regular Sierra, meaning the one with an internal combustion engine, is the same car as the Chevrolet Silverado, but one step up the premium ladder. Oddly enough, that doesn’t apply to the Sierra EV. It is completely different from the Silverado EV.

GMC Sierra EV with completely different dashboard

You can see that not only on the outside, but also on the inside. The Sierra EV’s dashboard is minimalist, with a vertically positioned screen instead of the center console. In the Silverado EV, the digital cockpit and the large touchscreen are connected horizontally.

Same platform as the GMC Hummer EV

The GMC Sierra EV is on the same platform as the Hummer EV. It has a range of up to 644 kilometers and has two electric motors that together deliver 764 hp and 1063 Nm of torque.

Fast charging with up to 350 kW

This makes the Sierra significantly more powerful than the Silverado, which has 673 hp. The GMC accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. It can tow up to 4300 kilos. Fast charging is also impressive. Thanks to its 800 volt on-board voltage, the Sierra EV can charge with 350 kW (!).

All-wheel steering of the GMC Hummer

It takes over the all-wheel steering of the Hummer EV, so it has a so-called crabwalk function. Then all four wheels turn in the same direction and the pick-up can drive diagonally forwards or backwards.

All wheels can also be steered in a different direction, allowing you to turn around your axis. Does that help? Not necessarily. But some Americans use their trucks on “trails”, off-road routes in nature. And they can be pretty extreme.

The GMC Sierra EV doesn’t come cheap

It will also be a while before the Sierra EV hits the market. The first cars will not be delivered to customers until early 2024. The GMC isn’t cheap. The Denali Edition 1 retails for $107,000. In 2025, cheaper versions starting at $50,000 will also be available.
