First pictures of the Volkswagen Golf facelift: You have to love it

In a year-end video, Volkswagen boss Thomas Schäfer gives an outlook on the facelift of the Volkswagen Golf that we can expect next year.

The current generation of the well-known hatchback model appeared in 2019. In 2024, when the Golf celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, the model will receive a facelift. Around four years later, this eighth generation of Golf will switch off the combustion engine. The next generations of the iconic hatchback will feature a fully electric powertrain.

New lighting after the facelift of the Volkswagen Golf

But that’s not the point, so back to the images the brand is sharing now. After Schäfer wishes the viewer a happy holiday, he looks forward to 2024. “Another year that moves us forward, with new highlights and products.” One very special,” says the CEO, before taking a somewhat revealing picture of the Volkswagen Golf -Facelifts shows.

We would have liked to get some clearer images as we can’t tell much from these first official images. However, the new lighting is clearly visible. We see a sharpened light signature with the now familiar LED bar that extends almost across the entire width of the vehicle.

Illuminated logo

Nothing special so far. However, if you follow this light bar to the middle, you will now find an illuminated logo, like the one we saw on the recently updated Touareg. It is unclear whether the Volkswagen Golf’s logo lights up on the back like that SUV.

After LED bars, this seems to be the next trend in the automotive world. We have already seen these illuminated logos on the new Cupra Tavascan. There’s no arguing about taste, but we can imagine that not everyone here is a fan. If you think these bright logos are too reminiscent of a carnival feel, then these first images may not be what you were hoping for.

Larger infotainment screen

The Volkswagen Golf is no longer the top seller it once was. In the years around the turn of the century, the German hatchback had a significantly larger market share than it does today. The almost 2,800 Golf models that have been sold in the Netherlands since the beginning of the year do not come close to the sales figures at that time.

The facelift won’t be able to change that much. At the same time, sales of the Volkswagen Golf are not affected by an illuminated logo alone. Based on previously released images, it looks like the rest of the car looks largely the same. However, the interior would be equipped with a larger touchscreen.
