CEO confirms: This Milano will be the new affordable Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo sees itself as a premium brand within the Stellantis Group. However, that doesn’t mean that affordable models will no longer come onto the market. Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo, confirms in an interview the brand’s upcoming cheapest model: the Milano.

With the new B-segment SUV, the brand wants to appeal to former Mito and Giulietta customers. Sporty driving characteristics and practicality, that’s what the Milano has to offer.

The Alfa Romeo Milano

When they think of the Alfa Romeo Mito and Giulietta, enthusiasts immediately think of the QV versions. “There is no Quadrifoglio planned for the Milano yet,” Imparato told Autovisie. He also doesn’t rule out the arrival of a Milano Q.

The basic version of the Milano has a mild hybrid drive. It is expected to be the 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine known from the Peugeot 208, for example. After all, this car is on the same platform, confirms the CEO.

In addition to the petrol version, there will also be a fully electric Alfa Romeo Milano. “The electric vehicle has four-wheel drive,” the CEO accidentally says. He doesn’t want to answer any further questions about the drivetrain yet.

It’s clear that the all-electric Alfa Romeo isn’t just another 156hp eCMP electric Stellantis product. The car is the company’s first electric vehicle with all-wheel drive, if we don’t count Ram. Logically, that means two electric motors. One on the front and one on the rear axle.

40 percent of sales

The Milano is positioned below the Tonale and is therefore likely to become Alfa Romeo’s volume model. “We don’t have a clear production target, but I think the Milano will account for around 40 percent of sales,” estimates Imparato.

The Alfa Romeo Milano is expected to arrive in dealers in September 2024. Two more cars based on Stellantis’ new STLA Large platform will follow in 2025 and 2026. This means that the Milano will remain the cheapest Alfa Romeo in the coming years.

Although no images of the Milano have been officially released yet, photos have already leaked.
