Old VW van mercilessly kills Tesla Cybertruck in off-road test
The Tesla Cybertruck seems to be dominant in every comparison test. But this 1986 Volkswagen T3 manages to outdo Elon Musk’s electric pickup in an off-road test.
It happened at the end of November Delivery event instead of the Tesla Cybertruck. The first ten customers received their electric vehicle after a four-year wait and the rest finally got a better impression of the steel pickup.
Tesla Cybertruck triumphs in its own tests
Elon Musk showed several comparison videos. Tesla, for example, kept one Pull tractorCompetition with a Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T and a Ford F-350 Diesel.
The Tesla Cybertruck also sprinted down the drag strip neck and neck with the Porsche 911 Carrera, while the Cybertruck pulled another 911 on a trailer. However, it later turned out that it wasn’t Quarter milebut for one 1/8 milerace.
Outdone by an old VW bus
Not surprisingly, the Tesla triumphed time and time again. The difference to the “only” 385 hp 911 becomes clear in the first corner. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the 845 hp pickup is very impressive in many ways.
Nevertheless, the Tesla Cybertruck has to acknowledge its superiority over an old Volkswagen T3 Vanagon. The two completely different vehicles never faced each other, but the owner of the VW van visited the exact spot where the electric vehicle previously went on an off-road adventure: Hollister Hills State Vehicle Recreation Area.
“This is one of the most famous obstacles here,” says American Volkswagen T3 owner Riley Monthule as he stands on a steep slope with large concrete steps. These are used to put your off-roader through its paces. “The Tesla Cybertruck seemed to have trouble with this in the video.”
Volkswagen T3 off-road
Monthule attempts the same test with his Volkswagen, which has a Subaru EJ22 engine. While the ground was very dry when the EV attempted, it is muddy when the VW van appears on the ramp. Monthule waits until it dries out a bit, locks all three differentials in his drivetrain and then climbs up with the greatest of ease.
The reactions to the Tesla Cybertruck were very divided right from the start. And while the haters now have some ammunition again, it’s too simplistic to say that the Cybertruck fails off-road. Not only did the electric pickup overcome the obstacle (albeit with some effort), the electric pickup also weighs more than a ton more, according to the owner. Additionally, Monthule believed that the Tesla Cybertruck was not driven by a very experienced off-roader. We see that Rematch I am pleased to meet you.
