The Tesla Cybertruck is coming to the Netherlands and this is how it works

Due to its angular shape with sharp points, the Tesla Cybertruck does not seem suitable for European roads. Finally, we have stricter pedestrian safety requirements than in the United States. However, you will soon see Elon Musk’s futuristic pickup truck in the Netherlands.

It is already clear that the American EV brand is not trying to bring the Tesla Cybertruck to Europe. Musk has previously noted that the electric car does not meet all EU regulations and therefore will not be seen on European roads.

This has some catches. First, you need to buy a Cybertruck in the US. This rule makes it difficult to find a used copy in the first year. When you finally buy one, you have to take your Tesla Cybertruck to a port and then ship it to our small country. Quite a process that might well be worth outsourcing to a specialized company.

Individual type approval by the RDW

Of course, when you arrive in the Netherlands, you can’t take it out on the road straight away, otherwise Elon Musk himself would have put the Tesla Cybertruck on the boat in large numbers. To obtain a Dutch license plate for your stainless steel electric vehicle, you must obtain an individual type approval from the RDW.

To obtain this, you must physically present your Tesla Cybertruck to the inspection agency. You may need to make some adjustments yourself, but after that you’re good to go. Once the first sheep have passed (and it is clear exactly what adjustments are needed), more will undoubtedly soon follow. Because a Tesla Cybertruck is of course the dream of every tech-savvy, environmentally conscious or Elon Musk-loving entrepreneur.
