Why the best electric car is no longer for sale
Shocking news! Honda will stop selling the E in Europe immediately. Well, that’s not so shocking, because the incredibly beautiful Honda E is for sale for nothing.
Now if you go to the Dutch Honda website you won’t see the electric E anymore. Of course there will still be stock copies at dealers, but that’s all.
Honda E will be launched in 2020
The Honda E came onto the market in 2020 and therefore only lasted three years. His mischievous appearance couldn’t change that. And also its beautiful interior and fantastic driving characteristics.
The problem? His reach
The problem with the electric Honda E? Its range is very limited. On paper it says 220 kilometers, but in practice there are only 120 (in cold weather) to 160 kilometers.
High price for short range
Combined with the rather high price, this meant that the E had no chance of success in Europe and certainly not in the Netherlands. It’s a shame, because otherwise the car did everything well.
The basic E cost 35,330 euros, the only variant above this was priced at 38,330 euros in the online configurator. Previously, buyers received a fully equipped car, but yes… that range.
Two versions Honda E
The entry-level model of the E had a 136 hp electric motor with 315 Nm of torque on the rear axle. The latter is the same in the Advance, but the electric motor produces 154 hp.
Comparison with the competition
With the E, Honda faced competition from Opel and Peugeot. Both the Corsa Electric and the e-208 initially had a range of more than 350 kilometers, with a price tag of around 35 grand.
This led to quite dramatic sales figures. In three years, Honda managed to sell only 168 units in the Netherlands. Compare that to the Renault Zoe, which has sold more than 5,250 examples since 2020.
