Why the new Suzuki Swift is actually not a new model
Suzuki draws the curtain on the new Swift. In terms of design and technology, there is little that is exciting. Suzuki might have better called it a facelift.
The Swift has long been known as a fun, affordable and, above all, reliable car. For enthusiasts, Suzuki offered the Swift Sport. The Japanese have not yet announced whether there will also be a sporty version of the fourth generation.
A “new” design for the Suzuki Swift
The new Suzuki Swift features a new smaller grille that better matches the design of the ZR-V. The signature of the headlights can also be seen on both models.
There are also smaller lighting units at the rear and the arc on the C-pillar that was characteristic of the previous generation is missing.
The interior
Suzuki still opts for an “old-fashioned” clock panel in the Swift’s interior. The 9-inch infotainment screen is located at the top of the dashboard in the new generation and is standard equipment. In the current generation, the screen was placed further down. In terms of dimensions, the new model is identical to the previous model. The volume of the luggage compartment also remains unchanged at 265 liters.
So it looks more like a facelift than a completely new generation. The car is also based on the same Heartect platform as its predecessor. Suzuki says it has further developed the platform and that the new model offers more comfort, including liquid-filled engine mounts, and is quieter thanks to more insulation material and improved rubber.
A mild hybrid
There are no surprises under the hood either. The new Suzuki Swift once again has a mild hybrid drive. This consists of a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 81 hp and 110 Nm of torque, as well as a 12 V starter/generator. The electric motor produces 3 hp and 50 Nm of torque. This has made the Swift a little more powerful and a little more economical. The powertrain is available with both a manual transmission and a CVT automatic transmission.
Suzuki Swift in the Netherlands
Suzuki has not yet published anything about the prices of the new Swift. It is said that the market launch in the Netherlands will take place in the second quarter of 2024. Want to stay up to date with all the latest automotive news? Then subscribe to the free Autovisie newsletter.
