This is the actual range of the Mercedes EQE

This is the actual range of the Mercedes EQE

Electric cars usually consume more than the manufacturers state. The result is less good range than you might expect. This time we are testing the range of the Mercedes EQE.

The difference between the stated WLTP range and the actual range is large for some vehicles. For this reason, Autovisie tests the actual average range in practice with the air conditioning and radio on. This gives you a better idea of how far you can actually get with an electric vehicle.

The Mercedes EQE

The Mercedes-Benz EQE has been around for almost two years now. As the EQE 350 Luxury Line, the Mercedes-Benz delivers 292 hp and 565 Nm to the rear wheels, and the battery has a capacity of 89 kWh. This means that the EQE, which costs 83,238 euros, should have a range of 607 kilometers. According to the manufacturer, the peak performance is 170 kW on the fast charger.

The actual range

The Mercedes EQE managed the standard lap on a cool autumn day on wet roads with 18.2 kWh per 100 kilometers, currently it is 17.0 kWh. In training he managed 489 kilometers in these unfavorable conditions and that is a good result.

The Mercedes EQE accelerates from 10 to 80 percent in 32 minutes, one minute longer than advertised. At the time the meter reading was taken, there was a lot of activity at the charging station. This may also be the reason why the maximum loading speed was not reached.

Consumption and charging speed Mercedes
WLTP consumption average 17.0 kWh/100 km
Measured consumption 18.2 kWh/100 km
Range WLTP/measured 607km/489km
Max. measured charging speed 164.9kW
Charging time 10-80%/measured 31 mins/32 mins

The Mercedes EQE showed a flatter curve by starting at 164.9 kW and then increasing to 50% battery charge with almost 150 kW. He then gradually reduced this so that he could still charge with 100 kW at 80%.

Please note that the actual consumption, including charging losses, can be more than 10 percent higher than what is displayed in the on-board computer. The total amount of generated power needed to achieve the WLTP range is therefore greater than what actually fits in the battery.

The consumption round

Autovisie independently tests consumption in the Netherlands as part of the Autovisie double test. Please note that consumption may vary as it depends on your driving style, but also on weather conditions and many other factors.
