Are battery changes the future? Nio signs deal with Volvo manufacturer

Replace your electric car battery with a full one. This is only possible with a few electric cars in Europe. This may change in the future. Nio closes a deal with Volvo manufacturer Geely.

You may know Nio from the ET5 and EL7. It unique selling point These are replaceable batteries from the Chinese manufacturer. Although not everyone believes in it, significant investments are being made in it.

Nio will work with Geely

Even in the Netherlands there are stations where you can change the battery of your Nio. 2,100 of the brand’s stations are already in use worldwide.

Geely is also already working on battery changes. The giant manufacturer has 300 stations. However, Geely’s focus was more on building cars. The manufacturer is responsible for brands such as Volvo, Lotus, Zeekr, Lynk and Co, Smart and Polestar.

Geely and Nio are now joining forces to focus on battery standards, replacement technology, expansion and implementation of the battery swap network, development of battery swap models and battery management. In short, everything that has to do with changing a battery.

Take your Volvo to a battery changing station

The companies will jointly develop two battery replacement standards for personal and commercial vehicles, Nio said. This would mean that there will be a battery swapping system suitable for multiple brands of cars. Can you ever take your Volvo to a Nio battery changing station?
