Huawei beats Apple Car: electric car on offer this month

Rumors about the Apple Car have been circulating for a long time. But the tech giant hasn’t released a car yet. In any case, Huawei has already beaten Apple in this area. A car made in collaboration with a Chinese automaker will go on sale this month.

It is a car from Luxeed, a brand born from a collaboration between Huawei and Chery Automobile. Chery is a big manufacturer that is also coming to Europe.

Apple Car is not a competitor to electric vehicles from Huawei and Chery Automobile

The first car to emerge from the collaboration with Huawei is the Luxeed S7. A sedan that will compete with the Tesla Model 3 in China.

The electric car runs on software from Huawei and has car technology from Chery Automobile. The battery in the floor of the electric vehicle comes from Catl, a major battery manufacturer that has now also entered into a partnership with Stellantis.

Battery in the Luxeed S7

Catl claims to have developed an extremely efficient battery called Shenxing. However, this LFP battery is not (yet) in the Huawei and Chery cars. At the bottom of the S7 Long Range is the M3P battery. This is more efficient than current LFP batteries and less expensive to produce than an NMC battery. A conventional LFP battery is hidden under the floor of the Standard Range.

The largest battery should produce around 80 kWh, the entry-level battery 60 kWh. You should be able to cover around 800 kilometers with the Long Range, and 550 kilometers with the entry-level model. Please note that this is the Chinese measurement method.

3.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h

The cheapest car from Huawei and Chery Automobile has a 215 kW (293 hp) electric motor and the fastest version has two electric motors with an output of 365 kW (497 hp). The model sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.3 seconds.

How much does Huawei and Chery Automobile car cost?

The Luxeed S7 can be ordered in China from November 28th for 258,000 Chinese renminbi. If we convert this into euros, it is about 33,200 euros.

It is still unclear whether the car will ever come to the Netherlands. It is also not known whether the model will ever compete with the Apple Car.
