The returns of the most expensive Ferrari are quite disappointing
Classics can be very expensive. This is also proven by a Ferrari 250 GTO, which was auctioned yesterday in New York for almost 52 million dollars. However, the yield is quite disappointing.
The Ferrari 250 GTO is one of the most sought-after cars in the world. Only one Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé sold for more money at auction. This makes the GTO the second most expensive model in the world.
The most expensive Ferrari in the auction
This example is the most expensive Ferrari ever sold at auction. In 2018, a Ferrari 250 GTO was auctioned for $48,405,000. It’s certain that GTOs were sold privately for more money. For example, in 2018 a copy was traded for 65 million euros.
The Ferrari 250 GTO was offered in New York by the auction house Sotheby’s. The car was owned by a collector for 38 years. The 250 GTO was used by Scuderia Ferrari at the Nürburgring and even raced at Le Mans with Mike Parkes and Lorenzo Bandini at the wheel. A special car with a rich history. And that’s worth a lot of money!
The yield is disappointing
Although $51.7 million (around €48.31 million) is a huge sum, the estimated value was significantly higher. According to the auction house, the most expensive Ferrari of all time would fetch at least $60 million.
The proceeds are therefore more than 8 million euros lower than estimated. It is unclear who the buyer of the classic is.
