Dutch government sells BMW M3 E30
Every year the government confiscates cars for many reasons. These used and old company vehicles are then sold by the Ministry of Finance. Autovisie shows exactly how this works in this report. This time a special car is for sale: a BMW M3 E30.
You can bid on the car on the government website. If you bid the highest amount, you can pick up the car. This amount is not the amount you will ultimately have to pay for your new car. A buyer’s premium of 15 percent will be added to your bid.
BMW M3 E30 in government
The E30 generation BMW M3 is a driving legend. Why? Simply because it is the first M3 ever.
In order to comply with FIA regulations for the Group A class in the late 1980s, 5,000 units had to be built in twelve consecutive months to homologate the M3. Production of the model began in March 1986. With 18,000 examples produced until 1990, it remained an exclusive car.
Not a six-cylinder
Many enthusiasts believe that a true BMW must have rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission and a six-cylinder engine. However, this BMW M3 got an in-line four-cylinder with a displacement of 2.3 liters.
This S14 engine produces 200 hp and 240 Nm of torque. This means that the sprint from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour is achieved in 6.9 seconds. The top speed is 235 kilometers per hour.
Although it is an exclusive car, not every buyer keeps their E30 as standard. Not even if it’s an M3! The government car was also given the necessary upgrades.
The engine is equipped with a different intake manifold with a carbon airbox and air intake, and the BMW also has a different exhaust system. In addition, the radiator and cooling hoses were replaced and the suspension was adjusted with new springs and dampers. Despite these adjustments, this BMW M3 E30 remains attractive.
Not a problem-free occasion
Almost every older car has a problem, including this M3 from 1991. The door window mechanism on the right does not work, which is why the window cannot be closed. Additionally, the throttle cable is loose and there are worrying reports that the engine is smoking.
The BMW M3 E30 in government service is therefore not perfect. And yet it’s probably an interesting investment and possibly a fun winter project. The used car was also offered last summer, but has not yet been sold.
