Spending the night alone is no problem. However, stone martens don’t just stop when they sleep. The animals keep their teeth sharp by gnawing. Cables and other hard materials are ideal for keeping teeth sharp.

Additionally, stone martens gnaw on parts of your car for another reason: scent markings. Martens mark their territory with scent glands in their mouths. Chewing car parts can leave them smelling.

This means that you have marten deterrent systems and it is best to park your car in the light. Opening the hood can cause a marten to choose another car. Light and cold penetrate through the opening. That’s not exactly what they’re looking for.
