Elon Musk on Tesla Cybertruck: “We dug our own grave”
Elon Musk doesn’t seem to have a clear opinion about the Tesla Cybertruck. While he was very dissatisfied with the strange thing weeks ago, he now calls the pick-up “our best product ever”.
When presenting the quarterly figures, the Tesla boss flew in all directions. The Cybertruck is a “fantastic product,” he said, before immediately admitting that it would be difficult for Tesla to make money on it.
Problems with Tesla Cybertruck
“We dug our own grave with the Tesla Cybertruck,” said Musk. Although we suspect that saying “I dug my own grave with the Cybertruck” would be more honest.
It is known that Tesla has significant problems with the design of the Cybertruck and the materials chosen. The slide is made of stainless steel and is partly made up of straight plates.
This brings with it all sorts of challenges, such as the fact that the straight panels “sing” while driving because they bend, a bit like a wood saw. Even on a straight plate you can see every imperfection.
A data leak that Handelsblatt wrote about four months ago shows that the Cybertruck has problems with the brakes, design flaws in the chassis, excessive vibrations and more.
Millions of reservations
“I want to temper expectations,” Musk told investors this week. “I think it will take a year to a year and a half for the model to make a positive contribution to our cash flow.”
Tesla has more than a million pre-orders for the Cybertruck. These are just reservations, not real orders. In any case, Musk assumes that mass production of the Cybertruck will have to wait a while.
According to him, Tesla will only be able to start production of the electric pickup in 2025. He estimates that almost 250,000 can be built annually.
First delivery on November 30th
Musk called it “normal” that there are so many problems with the Cybertruck. This is part of the development of a new car, said the CEO. Meh, generally other brands don’t have this problem.
The first Cybertrucks would be delivered to customers on November 30th, more than four years after the launch. The colossus will not come to Europe because it does not meet the safety requirements here.
