Dutch solar car goes hundreds of kilometers further than expected
The practical consumption of electric cars is sometimes significantly higher than stated by the manufacturer, but not with the Dutch off-road solar car. The Stella Terra travels hundreds of kilometers further than expected.
The Stella Terra is a solar car created by a group of students at Eindhoven University of Technology. It’s not the first time it’s happened Solar team Eindhoven developed a special car, including the Stella Vita.
Much further
The Dutch off-road solar car has a range of 550 kilometers off-road. If you drive on a paved road on a sunny day, a range of up to 710 kilometers is possible. That’s 30 percent more than initially assumed.
Under ideal conditions, the students’ solar car can travel much further. During a test drive in the Moroccan Sahara, where the sun naturally beats down on the panels, 1000 kilometers were covered.
Despite all the disguises, the car weighs 1200 kilograms and reaches a top speed of 145 kilometers per hour.
Dutch solar car
Lightyear’s failure may have lost hope that a (Dutch) solar car will ever go into production. The question is whether solar panels on cars are really the most efficient way to generate energy – in our country.
A plug-in hybrid solar car is currently available to order: the Toyota Prius. The latest generation is available with a solar panel in the roof.
