You won’t recognize the new Mercedes EQE SUV among thousands
You can say what you want about the new electric Mercedes generation, but not that it is unmistakable. Take the Mercedes EQS SUV in these photos as an example. You probably didn’t notice that it’s actually a Mercedes EQE SUV.
A white lie. We’re sorry. We just wanted to show how difficult it is to tell electric Mercedes apart. Can you tell the difference between an EQE and an EQS on the road without looking at the type designation? No, we thought, it’s just difficult, even with this new EQE SUV.
Mercedes EQE one of eight electric Mercedes models
Mercedes is perhaps the toughest of all car brands with the electrification of its model range. At the time of writing, the price list is populated with eight electric vehicles: EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS, EQS SUV, and EQV.
Uninspiring, somewhat confusing names. Because why don’t EQA, EQB and EQC get an SUV after the name? Just wait, it will come.
Four variants of the SUV EQE, including a sporty AMG
The Mercedes EQE SUV back then. It is 4.86 meters long and thus fits neatly between the EQC (4.76 meters) and the EQS SUV (5.12 meters). There will soon be four variants of the EQE SUV: one with rear-wheel drive and three with all-wheel drive. The entry-level model is the EQE 350+ with 292 hp and 565 Nm. It can reach a maximum range of 590 kilometers on one battery charge and only tow 750 kilos.
The EQE 350 is also available with 4Matic all-wheel drive. Then it has 292 hp, just like the 350+, but with 765 Nm of torque. Its WLTP scorecard shows a range of 558 kilometers. Good news for caravan trailers: the EQE 350 4Matic has no problem with a 1800 kg trailer. Finally, at the top of the regular EQE series is the 500 4Matic with 408 hp, 858 Nm and a range of 547 kilometers.
We write “normal EQE series” because there is also an AMG version. This EQE 53 delivers 476 hp, has the same torque as the EQE 500 and covers “only” 488 kilometers. For traffic light sprints, you’ve come to the right place with all EQE SUVs, but especially with the AMG. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and has a limited top speed of 210 km/h.
The Mercedes EQE SUV can be charged quickly with up to 170 kW
All EQEs have a battery with a usable capacity of around 90 kWh. Fast charging is possible with a maximum of 170 kW. As a result, the EQE SUV runs less smoothly than the EQS SUV, for example. Still, the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in about half an hour. The Mercedes normally charges with 11 kW, optionally with 22 kW.
Optionally with effective hyperscreen infotainment system
Otherwise there are really few surprises. Like the sedan-style EQE, the SUV can be ordered with rear wheels that steer and counter-steer, the somewhat sensational MBUX Hyperscreen and the Airmatic adaptive air suspension. It goes without saying that the AMG is sportier. The EQE SUV will be launched in the Netherlands at the beginning of 2023. The starting price is not yet known.
