You will never guess the engine of this Volkswagen T1 caravan/motorhome
The Volkswagen T1 is a true cult hero, but is now also very old. There has always been a lot of tinkering with good examples, although few have been worked on as thoroughly as this one. You would never expect the engine block of this VW!
The Volkswagen T1 came onto the market in 1950 and was produced until 1967. There is a four-cylinder boxer engine on the rear axle of the transporter, which in the T1 produces a maximum of 53 hp.
A new engine for the motorhome
And that’s not enough if you also want to take a caravan behind your T1, as is the case with this camper creation.
That’s why there’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo from the Audi S3 (8P) under the hood. In the hatchback, this powertrain produces 265 hp and 350 Nm of torque. With this powertrain, the S3 sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.5 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 250 kilometers per hour. You have to dare to do that in a Volkswagen T1 camper!
The power source transmits its power to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The T1 is still rear wheel drive!
A classic Volkswagen T1 appearance
The turbo pressure gauge of the four-cylinder engine is hidden in the retro interior, which completely matches the exterior of the caravan and T1 pick-up. In the caravan there is space to sleep, there is a fridge and plenty of storage space.
However, its size does not allow for much space as the nose of the T1 caravan partially covers the butt of the other T1. A case of form over function.
The special Volkswagen T1 caravan/motorhome could be yours. The car is being sold on an auction site. The auction ends on September 29th at 7 p.m.
