Would you like this used car: Peugeot 607, better than a BMW 5 Series?
Autovisie is always looking for used cars for enthusiasts and therefore searches the lists on the sales site Gaspedal.nl. This time we found a Peugeot 607.
The Peugeot 607 came onto the market in 1999 as a competitor to the Volvo S80, the Citroën C5 and the BMW 5 Series. Autovisie drove the model a year later. Was the Peugeot convincing?
Peugeot 607
Essential to this prosperity is the way in which the car is perceived in the segment in which Peugeot wants to place its top model. Peugeot wants to impress here with a proud design and, above all, a tasteful interior.
Occasion with a nice V6
“The test car is equipped with the most powerful engine that Peugeot currently has available. Internally referred to as the ES9 series, the engine has been extensively modified to reduce weight while gaining driving character. Unfortunately it doesn’t meet the Euro 4 emissions standard, but it can handle other criticism well.”
“With four overhead camshafts, a good torque profile is achieved. From 2,000 rpm, 260 Nm are already available, but it is above all the pulling power from 3,200 rpm that characterizes the V6 with its endurance.”
The Peugeot 607 is strong and flexible
“Strong and with a pleasant suppleness that gradually unfolds. The service provided appears less enthusiastic than the final results. This is due to the sound of the six cylinders and the wide speed range that the engine runs through. The Peugeot’s tachometer is fully utilized because the automatic transmission only has four gears.”
“At full throttle, the upshift to the next gear only occurs at 6200 rpm and that is high for an automatic. The acceleration force is more than sufficient for a car of this size and weight; We measured acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour with the Peugeot 607 in just 10.2 seconds.”
There is good communication between the engine and the automatic transmission. Any irregularities in the loop culture are perfectly filtered and the switching diagram is precisely tailored to the selection programs and manual switching in terms of performance and response behavior. Peugeot has spared the trouble of developing a completely new transmission for the 607 and relies on the adaptive four-speed automatic transmission from the 406 series. Of course, ZF has adapted all kinds of features to convince the spoiled customer that the additional resistance is not necessary.
