The budget memorandum is an annual budget memorandum of the Dutch government. It is presented on Budget Day and sets out the government’s financial plans and priorities for the coming year. It also includes long-term plans.

No more quarter prices for campers

One of those long-term plans involves campers. The vehicle tax for mobile homes will increase significantly if the government has its way.

How much car tax will you pay in 2026?

In 1994, a quarterly vehicle tax was introduced for mobile homes. So you only pay 25 percent of the vehicle tax. If you rent out your mobile holiday home, you have to pay 50 percent of the tax.

But how much tax will you really pay on your RV in 2026 if these plans become reality? This answer is simple. You need to multiply your current car tax by two. Landlords continue to pay 50 percent.

Suppose you have a Fiat Ducato camper that weighs between 1751 and 1850 kilograms. This is not very difficult for a camper. There’s a diesel engine in the nose and you don’t have to pay a particle surcharge. Then you now spend 147 euros in the quarter. From 2026 it would be 294 euros per quarter. So from 2026 you will spend 588 euros more per year on vehicle tax if the plans are implemented.
