Why the Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid is useful.
In the Netherlands, the Ford Ranger is sold primarily to contractors and foresters. A prejudice, of course, although you have to look closely if you want to find a Ranger that doesn’t have a gray license plate. The model will have a plug-in hybrid drive in the future, making it more practical than ever.
The current Ford Ranger is available with a four-cylinder diesel engine and the Raptor with a powerful 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine. This means a much more environmentally friendly powertrain.
The Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid is more convenient
But it’s not just environmental friendliness that counts with the new Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid. A hybrid can also make sense. Like the other Rangers, the pickup also has power outlets, one in the cab and two in the bed of the truck.
For example, you can charge your drill or use heavier power tools on the construction site. When the battery is empty, the fuel engine turns on automatically. What’s handy is that the Ranger can power your devices for longer without activating the fuel engine.
Drive 40 kilometers electrically
Ford has not yet announced how large the battery of the Ranger plug-in hybrid is. It is known that the electric motor that supports the 2.3-liter gasoline engine can tow the pickup truck 40 kilometers electrically. As with the other drive variants of the Ranger, the maximum trailer load (braked) is 3,500 kg.
In addition to a larger battery, the plug-in hybrid has another advantage over the other Ford Rangers. The PHEV naturally emits less carbon dioxide. This means that this car will probably be the cheapest version in the Netherlands. How high the price will be is still unclear.
