Six months of partying in the most beautiful Toyota: the GR86

With a trembling upper lip and full eyes, we appreciate six months of driving the Toyota GR86. Well, this farewell isn’t that melodramatic, but it does leave a gap.

The gap left by the GR86 affects not only our garage, but the entire European market. Production of the Toyota has stopped and if you still want a GR86, you have to go to the used car market.

The Toyota GR86 as a long-term tester

And no, you’re too late, because this example with over 10,000 kilometers sold very quickly. We covered the entire route with an average fuel consumption of 1 in 11.5.

Not a bad result as we often brought it to the limiter at 7,500 rpm in the Stuurmanswegen report and measurement session. The Toyota GR86 requires Euro98, meaning fuel costs are disappointing.

Speaking of the 2.4-liter boxer engine with 234 hp: It is an exciting engine with sufficient torque in the low range and a nice powerful peak performance. The six-speed gearbox suits its character well, but we weren’t entirely happy with the drivetrain.

The daily distances and pleasure trips were often a great pleasure. The Toyota GR86 chassis has a certain degree of rigidity, which means that the rear axle can be stiff, especially at low speeds. However, due to the low weight and low center of gravity, the springs and stabilizers are not so stiff that it becomes uncomfortable.

For the purist

As already mentioned, there will be no melodramatic ending, but the Toyota GR86 leaves a black hole with its unique technical design. In the Autovisie garage, but certainly also in the heart of the purist. This is no longer available and it is uncertain whether it will ever happen again.
