Does this MG Cyberster make the Tesla Roadster obsolete?
There is already a wide range of hatchbacks and SUVs in the electric market, but convertible enthusiasts still have little choice. That’s going to change. Not only on the Polestar 06 and Tesla Roadster, but also on the MG Cyberster.
The model is coming to the Netherlands next year. The brand has not yet said anything about the specifications. However, specifications can already be found in Chinese patent documents. The question is whether these correspond exactly to the European version.
MG Cyberstar
A 77 kWh battery is located under the floor, with which the car can travel around 580 kilometers according to the Chinese measurement method. Consider a range of just over 400 kilometers according to the WLTP measurement method.
A 310 hp electric motor on the rear axle is coupled to the battery pack, or two electric motors that together deliver 544 hp and 725 Nm. Even if the cabriolet will not be light with heavy gullwing doors, a large battery pack and an electric top – and is probably more of a GT than a roadster – it sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. In addition to the original designed exterior, the interior is also well done.
A disadvantage are the screen edges of the clock panel on the MG Cyberster. That’s just not good enough for a car that supposedly competes in the price segment of the Audi A5 Cabrio.
Earlier than the Tesla Roadster
As an advantage, this Cyberster currently has the exclusive right to electric “roadsters”. After all, the Tesla Roadster and Polestar 6 aren’t here yet. MG doesn’t expect it to be a hit. As they say themselves, it has to be an “image builder”.
