That’s a percentage of Dutch people who can’t change a flat tire
If you have a flat tire, you can swap it out for the homecoming or spare tire. Easy right? Not according to the majority of Dutch motorists. They stand with their hands in their hair as they stand on the side of the road with a nail in their tire.
According to a study by Apollo Tires, a large proportion of Dutch drivers do not dare to change a tire on the road. Only 36 percent stated that they would use the spare wheel if they had a flat tire.
puncture? Then 40 percent call the emergency services
More than 40 percent do not know how to change a tire and call the emergency services. Just over 15 percent call on a family member, friend or colleague for advice.
Almost 20 percent of motorists do not even know whether their car is equipped with a spare tire or a homecomer. After all, many modern cars today have an emergency repair kit.
Older drivers change often
It is striking – and not surprising – that drivers over the age of 55 roll up their sleeves more often (42 percent) than young people aged 18 to 24 (33 percent). Although the difference is smaller than we thought.
Women are unsure or don’t even know how to change a tire because only 27 percent would try it. For men, this proportion is almost 50 percent.
It’s important that someone with a driver’s license knows how to replace a flat tire. After all, it can always happen that someone you know cannot be reached for help or that roadside assistance is a long time coming.
