This will smash Lamborghini Ferrari at Le Mans
Ferrari won the Le Mans 24 Hours last month for the first time in decades. They beat strong competitors like Cadillac, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota. But next year the battle will be truly epic with Lamborghini also taking part.
The story is well known. Tractor magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini was unhappy with the clutch on his Ferrari 250 GT and found Ferrari’s customer service to be poor. He raised the issue with Enzo Ferrari, who haughtily and proudly showed him the door. Ferruccio was furious and decided he could build better cars than Ferrari. The rest is history.
Lamborghini versus Ferrari at Le Mans
We can therefore say that the old feud between Ferrari and Lamborghini will not really be played out until next year, when the two maces go head-to-head in the 24 Hours of Le Mans at France’s Circuit de la Sarthe. Ferrari joins the 499P, Lamborghini takes on this SC63, which was unveiled at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and will start its first laps of testing on the track right after.
Not a V10 or V12, but a hybrid V8
It will be used in the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship from 2024, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring. Since the SC63 is a Lamborghini, it should be powered by a naturally aspirated V10 or V12 engine, but unfortunately that’s not allowed. Therefore, a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 with a hybrid system was chosen.
With two Formula 1 drivers at the start
The power source was specially developed for the SC63 and receives a restrictor in the LMDh class, so that the power does not exceed 680 hp. It also has an LMDh gearbox, battery and electric motor/generator as standard. On the track, the SC63 will be dressed in green and black, of course with the colors of the Italian flag in the stripes. Lamborghini has signed Daniil Kvyat and Romain Grosjean as drivers.
