The Renault Scénic is now also an (electric) SUV
Nobody wants MPVs anymore and the SUV hype is far from over. That’s why Renault has made the new Espace a long-wheelbase Austral, and the forthcoming Renault Scénic will no longer be a people carrier.
The Renault Scénic E-Tech Electric, as its full name is, will be presented at the IAA in Munich in September. However, through the camouflage of this production car, we can already see that the model is very similar to the Scénic Vision 2022. And the Renault Rafale and the facelifted Clio, given the flat headlights and vertical daytime running lights below.
Renault Scénic on electric Megane platform
Under the skin, the Scénic is largely the same as the Megane E-Tech Electric, with which it shares its CMF EV platform. The latter is available with 130 hp and a 40 or 60 kWh battery. The 220 hp version is always equipped with the largest battery, which allows it to travel about 450 kilometers. Renault offers buyers two possible DC charging speeds: 85 kW or 130 kW.
In 1996, the original Mégane Scénic was launched
The original Renault Scénic (then called Mégane Scénic) was introduced in 1996 and was a huge success. It was one of the first compact MPVs. In 2000, Renault launched a special variant of the Scénic, the RX4, with all-wheel drive, increased ground clearance, various plastic protection plates on the body, a rear spare wheel and a center differential. The thing was a huge flop.
The second generation Scénic was also available in a Grand Scénic version with a longer wheelbase and seven seats on board. In 2007, the Scénic Conquest was sort of a spiritual successor to the RX4, albeit without all-wheel drive. The third Scénic followed in 2009, in 2016 number four added some crossover elements to the design. Production of this generation was discontinued after just six years.
