This mischievous sports coupe is the all-new electric Caterham
Interesting experiment by Caterham. This is the Project V, a 272 hp electric sports car with a range of 400 kilometers and a weight of less than 1190 kilos.
Will Project V go into production? Yes, in more or less this form it will be available for sale by the end of 2025. And that means it’s a marked departure from the traditional Caterham models, which are spartan driving machines with little practicality.
Caterham Project V with three seats
The Project V is a so-called 2+1, with two seats in the front and one seat in the middle in the back. It has a 55 kWh battery that is divided between two places in the car floor.
In just over 4 seconds to 100 km/h
Constructed of aluminum, carbon fiber and composite material, the Project V is not only light, but also fast. It accelerates to 100 km/h in just over 4 seconds and has a top speed of 230 km/h. It can also be charged smoothly, with a maximum of 150 kW.
Electric Seven as a trial balloon
It’s not the first time Caterham has launched an electric test balloon. A few months ago, the small British manufacturer showed the EV Seven. Caterham doesn’t say how far it’s getting with its 51kWh battery. Except that it lasts about twenty minutes on one track.
Its electric motor is located on the rear axle and delivers 252 hp and 250 Nm, with which the EV Seven, which weighs less than 700 kilograms, accelerates to 100 km/h in 4 seconds. Remarkably, the car is only 70 kilos heavier than a regular Seven.
