Electric Rolls-Royce Spectre: The brand’s best creation ever?
A Rolls-Royce is always a monument to excess and ultimate luxury. But now they also drive electrically. Is the Specter as good as the V12 models and is it as superior and comfortable as one would expect from a Rolls-Royce? The first test gives the answer.
One of the founders of Rolls-Royce, Charles Rolls, already knew it 123 years ago: An electric drive train would be ideal. No more smoke and dirty hands. That’s what he yelled after getting a ride in an electric car. Yes, you read that right, they already existed back then. Only Rolls-Royce did not think the time was right because there were no good charging options. This was not in line with Rolls-Royce’s mission, as they wanted to offer the very best, a car that performs effortlessly in every respect.
First Rolls-Royce, then EV
The technical director of the most legendary brand in the history of the traditional automotive industry, Dr. Mihiar Ayoubi still follows the clear brand philosophy from back then. So the Specter first had to be a Rolls-Royce, since it later became the first all-electric production model. This Specter must therefore also appear effortlessly, deliver high performance, have the best possible build quality and, above all, float super comfortably over the road. Rolls-Royce also calls these extremely comfortable driving characteristics waftability. Achieving that magic carpet feel in a 6,000-pound electric coupe was a challenge, to say the least.
Standing like this, it looks like two drops of water on another Rolls-Royce model, the Wraith. He has the same hard back. The body of this coupé is completely new and is based on the modular platform of the luxury architecture series. With a car length of 547.5 cm, the Specter is around eight inches longer than the Wraith. The wheelbase of this real four-seater is around ten centimeters longer and is 321 cm. According to Rolls-Royce, the Specter should be seen as the spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupé.
No records for the Rolls-Royce Specter
Rolls-Royce has prided itself on building the best cars in the world for years, but that’s not the same as breaking records. You’re not choosing the largest battery in the world or the longest range on a single charge. No, they rely on absolute top quality and the most comfortable driving experience possible. With the battery, which has a net capacity of 102 kWh, you can drive up to 540 km according to the WLTP standard. Fast charging takes place at a maximum speed of 195 kW. Speaking of numbers: the Specter sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and, thanks to a 584 hp and 900 Nm strong electric motor duo, it reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.
Rolls-Royce customers consider range and performance to be sufficient, research by the top manufacturer revealed. Keep in mind that the average Rolls-Royce owner owns at least five cars. Customers particularly liked the fact that they never have to fill up in public again, but can now charge at home with maximum privacy. This luxury experience is now available for almost 400,000 euros.
