How this innovative electric car can travel 1,000 km on a full battery
Many electric car opponents stubbornly stick to the argument that you have to charge every other day because the range is not good. This innovative electric vehicle knocks the last legs off the EV haters. This NEVS Emily GT can travel 1,000 kilometers with a full battery.
The NEVS watts? There’s a good chance you’ve never heard of the brand. NEVS stands for National Electric Vehicle Sweden and took over Saab in 2012 after the brand went bankrupt. NEVS, in turn, was acquired by Evergrande in 2019, after which the Chinese giant ran into financial difficulties itself.
Electric car with a range of 1,000 kilometers
To keep NEVS from going bankrupt, only 5 percent of EV developers stayed on the payroll. During this “hibernation” the remaining employees developed the Emily GT, an electric car with an absurd range of 1,000 kilometers.
But how does this electric vehicle manage to drive such a distance with a full battery, while the Mercedes EQS – currently the electric vehicle with the longest range – is stuck at around 750 kilometers? The secret lies in the electric motors. NEVS has managed to install these in the wheels of the electric car instead of between the wheels.
Gigantic 175 kWh battery
By accommodating the electric motors in the wheels, there is much more space for batteries. The NEVS Emily GT therefore has a battery pack with a total of 175 kWh. For comparison, the largest battery you will find in a Tesla Model S is 100 kWh. Each electric motor produces just over 120 hp, increasing the system output to over 480 hp. That’s enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.6 seconds.
Nevertheless, it was not an easy task to turn it into an easily steerable electric car. Because of the electric motors, each wheel is about 35 kilos heavier and that’s a problem. This is part of the unsprung mass as the wheels are mounted under the dampers and springs. The makers believe that they managed to adjust the NEVS Emily GT so that the car steers sharply.
We would like to test this in real life, but it will be difficult for now. The electric car is one more thing concept car – although that doesn’t prevent us from shipping on public roads. So we have to keep our fingers crossed that this NEVS Emily GT ever really goes into production, or that the technology is used in another electric car.
