Succession has nothing to do with it! The CEO of Nissan spied on the operations manager

A few years after the sensational Carlos Ghosn soap opera, Nissan has once again been discredited by alleged misconduct by a CEO. Makoto Uchida, who succeeded Ghosn as CEO in 2019, is said to be secretly spied on by operations manager Ashwani Gupta.

Do you know the brilliant HBO series Succession, which follows the Machiavellian machinations of a wealthy media baron’s children? They should do a spin-off, but with Nissan’s management as a theme.

Nissan CEO spied on his chief operating officer

Because it is apparently a snake pit at the top of the automaker. CEO Makoto Uchida is said to have secretly installed cameras at Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta’s home to spy on him.

COO would jeopardize deal with Renault

Uchida hoped to gather incriminating material on Gupta so he could fire him. Uchida was reportedly upset that Gupta was trying to thwart a deal with Renault.

Nissan would acquire a 15 percent stake in an electronics division of Renault, which will be separated from the French automaker as a separate company.

Exploring cross-border behavior

Gupta left Nissan last month. The official reason is that he wants to look for a new challenge elsewhere. Sources inside Nissan say Gupta has been asked to leave the company over allegations of a violation.

Two cameras in the commander’s house

However, an examination of this claim revealed something very different. This Gupta was spied on by two cameras at home. One was hung by a security company and the other by Nissan’s internal security service.

Carlos Ghosn was arrested on suspicion of fraud

Nissan also fell into disrepute in 2018. Top man Carlos Ghosn was suspected of financial misconduct and arrested at Tokyo airport. He was held in Japan for more than a year but managed to escape to Lebanon.
