Fiat is a hero! Refuses to stop selling gray cars
It has been a thorn in our side for years, the dullness of the Dutch fleet. Grey, grey, black, grey, silver, occasionally white. Bah! Three times, ah! Pick a real color, folks. Luckily, Fiat is now making that a lot easier with their Operation No Gray.
The Italian brand announces that it will no longer supply gray cars, starting with the electric Fiat 600e, which will be launched on July 4th. That also explains the recent publicity stunt in which a 600e, with the CEO of Fiat at the wheel, was dipped in a barrel of orange-red paint.
Fiat wants to become the brand of colors
Fiat wants the absence of the color gray to become something typical of its models and become the brand of colors. In a YouTube video, CEO Olivier Francois criticizes other manufacturers for their color choices, but acknowledges that gray is in high demand and sells easily.
The new 600e is the successor to the 500X
The new Fiat 600e should more or less be seen as the successor to the 500X, a kind of crossover variant of the electric 500e. The model is based on Stellantis’ E-GMP platform and likely features the same underlying technology as the Jeep Avenger, Opel Mokka-e and Peugeot e-2008.
Equipped with the well-known Stellantis drive train
That means it’s equipped with the Stellantis powertrain that we’ve already seen in more than ten models, with a 156 hp electric motor and a 54 kWh battery. The range of the 600e is expected to be just over 400 kilometers. Fast charging is done with 100 kW.
Also available with a 1.2 liter petrol engine?
The Jeep Avenger, the Opel Mokka and the Peugeot 2008 are also petrol engines with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine. It is not yet known whether there will also be a petrol version of the Fiat 600. Probably yes, but maybe not in the Netherlands, where electric vehicles are doing well.
