Dive into the price list: the Opel Astra GSe

GSe is back… but in a different way. Based on the price list of the Opel Astra, we learn what the letters have to offer today.

Opel has dusted off the iconic GSe letters and is reusing them on new models. The letters still stand for sporty models, but with a different interpretation. The letters no longer stand for “Grand Sport injection” but for “Grand Sport electric”. This starts with plug-in hybrid models. The first are the Opel Astra and the Opel Grandland. The cars can be ordered now

This is what the new GSe offers

Of course, the best way to get to know a reintroduced sporty label is to drive the cars. We did that with the Opel Astra GSe earlier this year. Now let’s look at what’s on the option list of such a modern GSe. We take the Opel Astra hatchback as the starting point for this, because this seems to us to be the best basis for a sporty model alongside the Sports Tourer and Grandland.

Entry price Opel Astra GSe

Of course, the price list begins with the starting prices. You currently pay 33,499 euros for a standard Opel Astra hatchback. There’s still a small saving for the GSe, up to €49,499. For that you get the only Opel Astra with an output of no less than 165 kW (225 hp), provided, of course, that the battery is fully charged and the electric motors can take part. Electric motors in the plural, because the GSe is also the only Opel Astra with all-wheel drive.

Powertrain Opel Astra GSe

This includes a torque of no less than 520 Nm. That’s good enough for the Opel Astra GSe to accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and further accelerate to 235 km/h. And all this with an official consumption of 1.2 l/100 km. You can also drive a maximum of 59 km purely electrically. Everything according to the WLTP standard, so you don’t always have to resort to the sporty features.

Standard equipment Opel Astra GSe

You will also notice visually that you have opted for the sporty top model. For example, the Astra GSe features model-specific bumpers, 18-inch two-tone alloy and various (glossy or not) black accents. The interior features GSe sports seats with Alcantara covers, which are AGR-certified in good Opel tradition. Finally, the chassis is sportier tuned.

Other standard features of the GSe: active cabin air filter, Drive Assist 2.0 (a comprehensive package of assistance systems including adaptive cruise control), a wireless phone charger and extensive infotainment including voice control and live navigation as well as over-the-air updates.

exterior decoration

Then it’s time for personalization. As with the regular Astra models, yellow is the standard color for the Opel Astra GSe. Nice, hopefully this will bring some more color to the road! Your Astra can be painted white for a surcharge of EUR 199. Black, dark gray and silver are possible for a surcharge of 699 euros. If you want a color other than yellow (optionally clear blue and dark red), you have to pay 899 euros. We’d normally order our Opel Astra in dark red, but for this week’s sporty example we think the standard yellow and black is a fitting combination.

As a GSe, the Opel Astra always has a black roof. When choosing a bike, the selected version is also not offered.

interior design

Then we come to the interior. There we can only change the upholstery. The standard Alcantara can be exchanged for black nappa leather for 1,749 euros, which means that the GSe sports seats are no longer required. We are therefore not examining this option.

Lots of options

Then we have arrived at the individual options. For 199 euros we check the window heating. The panoramic roof (800 euros) is nice, but in our opinion it does not suit a sporty version. We check the adaptive Intelli-Lux Pixel LED headlights (899 euros) again. The 7.4 kW on-board charger (299 euros, instead of the standard 3.7 kW) is also practical. Come on, let’s complete the already extensive infotainment for 1,399 euros including head-up display and hi-fi audio system. We’ll leave the last option on the list, a standard trailer hitch (799 euros), as it is.

Assemble the new Opel Astra GSe yourself

The assembled Opel Astra GSe now costs 52,295 euros, alternatively we have ticked options for just under 2,800 euros. That is not that bad. Then there is also something nice in the driveway. How would you put the Opel Astra together? Do you also decide for the GSe or do you prefer a regular version? You can easily find the configurator and the price list at www.opel.nl.
