Beautiful lines but smaller trunk in the new Mercedes E-Class Estate
Station wagon enthusiasts can rub their hands as the new Mercedes E-Class Estate has been unveiled. Some time ago, the Germans pulled the curtain on the sedan version.
Now it’s time to take a look at the new Mercedes E-Class Estate. A car whose graceful, not too exaggerated play of lines will probably appeal to many.
Bigger but less trunk space
The station version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has grown – as we often see with new models. Almost three centimeters wider, a wheelbase that is over two centimeters longer and the length is also a few millimeters longer than its predecessor.
If you think you can stuff an extra St. Bernard in the trunk, you will be disappointed. Despite the larger proportions, the trunk has shrunk. While you could stow around 640 liters in the previous Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate without the bench seats folded down, it is only 615 liters in this new generation. With the rear seats folded down, you can increase the storage space by 10 liters. Then you can stow 1,830 liters of luggage. The hybrid versions have to make do with 460 to 1,675 liters of luggage space.
More spacious rear seats in the new Mercedes E-Class station wagon
So no drastically larger trunk. Mercedes gives the passengers space. A wise choice perhaps, because how often do you fill the trunk of an E-Class to the brim? On the other hand, you might be wondering if the passengers of previous generations of E-Classes had anything to complain about. Anyway, the choice has been made, and it results in an inch more elbowroom and an inch more kneeroom for the rear bench seat.
Air suspension is standard on the rear axle of the E-Class Estate, and is available as an option at the front. In addition, the Mercedes E-class station wagon corresponds to the sedan version. You can see the video we made about it here. For the time being, only four-cylinder hybrid engines can be found under the hood. The plug-in hybrid E300e dominates with a total of 230 hp, followed by the E200e and E220d. These are two mild byrbides, each with around 200 hp.
On offer from autumn
Prices are currently unknown. Keep an eye on Autovisie for this. However, we can report that the new Mercedes E-Class Estate can be ordered from this fall.
