Will it be attractive again to buy a used car?
Used cars have risen sharply in price over the last three years. This was due to problems with new car deliveries. Now the tide seems to be turning, according to figures from the AutoScout24 sales site.
Certain used cars have increased in price even faster than average in recent years. According to previous figures, used cars from the Audi brand in particular have become significantly more expensive.
Used cars haven’t gotten much more expensive (or even cheaper).
Although Audi was an extreme outlier, every used car actually went up in price significantly. Fortunately, the figures from the beginning of the year are somewhat more positive for buyers, although used cars have not become (much) cheaper.
From the beginning of the year up to and including May, the average price of a used car has risen by 123 euros (+0.5 percent). Last year it was an increase of 1,093 euros (+5.2 percent) in this period. If we don’t include January, the price of used cars on average even fell slightly. In February, March, April and May, the price of a used car fell by an average of 0.14 percent. In the same period last year, it was an increase of 3.7 percent.
There is also a positive trend. More new cars are being sold. More new cars mean more supply on the used car market. The supply of used cars has increased by 7.6 percent in recent months. Compared to the previous year, 4.6 percent more used cars are for sale.
