Dive into the price list: The BMW XM – good and wrong?
BMW is celebrating the 50th anniversary of BMW M GmbH in a special way: with the extreme BMW XM. A huge performance SUV. We dive into the price list and put one together.
It’s the birthday of BMW M GmbH. In 2022 it will be exactly 50 years and that was duly celebrated. For example, BMW M was allowed to develop its own model for the first time since the legendary M1. This wasn’t a modern M1, but something that’s perhaps just as controversial. See the BMW XM here. A large performance SUV, which is therefore only available as an M model. We have already written more than enough about it and were allowed to drive it. Now let’s put one together. Oh yeah, remarkably Citroën doesn’t mind that name.
BMW XM in two flavors
The BMW XM is currently available in two variants, both plug-in hybrids based on the 4.4-liter V8, an eight-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive system M xDrive.
The “standard version” has an output of 480 kW (653 hp) and 800 Nm. Enough to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and to reach the standard limited top speed of 250 km/h. Thanks to the plug-in hybrid technology, average consumption is limited to 1.5 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 33 g/km. This keeps the BPM within limits. Of course, who needs to charge the XM for, but you also want to be able to use the full power. If you take it easy, you can drive over 80 km purely electrically.
If you are not yet convinced by these numbers, BMW M also has the BMW XM Label Red on offer for you. It delivers a whopping 550 kW (748 hp) and 1,000 Nm. Then you are already after 3.8 seconds at 100 km/h and the car (optional) goes on to 290 km/h. Nevertheless, the average consumption does not differ significantly from the “standard” XM. Well then, those are the official WLTP numbers.
BMW XM prices
The special BMW XM is of course no bargain. The price list starts at 177,825 euros for the “standard version” and 204,155 euros for the Red label. Don’t hesitate too long in your choice, because the edition is limited to 500 copies. Oh yes, you can build your own piggy bank for vehicle tax, because the colossus weighs 2,687 kg (license plate weight)…
standard equipment
Of course, you won’t lack for anything on board the BMW XM. Some highlights: illuminated BMW Iconic Glow kidney, soft-close doors, Adaptive M Suspension Professional, steerable rear wheels, M Sport brake system, M Sport exhaust system, brand new Operating System 8.5 (of course with a curved display), Harman Kardon surround sound system and even temperature-controlled drink holders. There are also special decorations in the form of carbon fiber interior panels and a “sculptural headliner in 3D prismatic Alcantara with ambient lighting”.
They buy the BMW XM mainly to make a statement. That’s why we forego the “basic model” and opt for the Red label. Extra exclusive. As an M model, there are no other model variants, such as an xLine.
exterior decoration
Then we come to the exterior decoration of the BMW XM. The standard body color is M Brooklyn Gray. If you want a different color, you’ll have to shop at BMW Individual. To do this, you call up the separate BMW Individual configurator, but during our “visit” there is a malfunction… Well, the standard non-metallic gray also suits it well. Striking and reserved at the same time.
There are five wheel variants to choose from with three basic designs. 21-inch alloy wheels are standard, with 22-inch and 23-inch wheels alternatively available. The prices are between 1,879 and 3,267 euros. Our choice falls on the M double-spoke design 922M in black with red accents. Then we decide on the variant with sports tires. The additional price thus amounts to 2,999 euros.
interior design
Here we are done quickly. BMW normally offers all sorts of options, but the BMW XM Label Red is only available with a black BMW Individual leather interior with red accents and carbon fiber elements. Looks good. With more options, we probably would have come up with this interior.
Packages and Options
For €2,795, we’re happy to tick the M Driver’s Pack. Normally, the top speed of a BMW M model is 270 km/h, with the BMW XM Label Red it is even up to 290 km/h. The M Driver’s Pack is also the only package that can be selected as an option.
There are many separate options. For example, we opt for the heated front seats and the red brake calipers, both options at no extra cost. Although the BMW XM is meant to be a statement, we find the bold red detailing on the flank very eye-catching. So for €321 we’re ticking the M High Gloss Shadow Line, with high gloss black exterior accents. Because of the active cruise control with stop & go function, we would also like the Driving Assistant Professional (2,829 euros). The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System for 4,750 euros will also be tested. The rest of the list of individual options is part of the standard equipment.
For 1,598 or 2,040 euros you can still order the BMW XM including charging point (wall box) at home, including installation. There are also some accessories and winter wheel sets.
Assemble the new BMW XM yourself
