The currently much-discussed fan issues surrounding Super League matches and the measures imposed by the authorities sometimes produce strange results. The closure of the home fans sector on Wednesday in the home match against Lausanne (2:2) unexpectedly brought additional income to the FCZ.
The season ticket holders of the south bend in Letzigrund were not allowed to sit in their usual seats due to the riots after the match between Zurich and Basel on January 21, but the majority of fans were still present at the match – for once simply in the opposite case sector, to which visiting fans are usually entitled. This was made available to FCZ fans prior to the match, after consultation with those responsible in Lausanne. The several dozen away fans were moved closer to the main stand.
However, the Zurich fan curve season tickets were no longer valid for the match and therefore fans had to buy a new ticket. The estimated 2,000 additional tickets sold in the northern bend have probably generated more than 50,000 francs in additional revenue for the FCZ. A ticket in that sector costs – depending on the game – 26 to 31 francs. In total, almost 12,000 fans attended the match.
