SVP Landraadslide Thomas Matter has announced his campaign budget on YouTube.

How much money is needed to come to power or to stay in power? Until now, this question has often remained unanswered. But since this year, politicians and parties have to disclose their campaign budget for the first time if they spend more than 50,000 francs. The submission deadline expired on Thursday.

It may take two weeks for all data to be online. But some candidates have already announced their budget. Including SVP National Councilor Thomas Matter (57) aka ‘DJ Tommy’. The Zurich man recently made headlines for producing an SVP election campaign song that caused a scandal.

That’s how much DJ Tommy invests

But now Matter has not published a new composition, but his campaign budget on YouTube: no less than 160,000 francs. This is the highest amount a candidate has ever invested themselves. FDP State Councilor Marcel Dobler (43), who paid CHF 70,000 out of his own pocket, came in second. Matter explains the large amount by saying that he does not accept donations from third parties and finances everything himself.

But that is not everything. DJ Tommy also makes the bills fly for his own party. He is donating another CHF 300,000 to SVP Switzerland, making him a top donor. Where: The largest donor pants wear party father Christoph Blocher (82). He puts 550,000 francs in the People’s Party’s battle box, as he said on SRF.

The king of campaign budgets

FDP State Councilor Andri Silberschmidt (29) is also in the six-digit range. He was one of the first to announce his budget and came up with 280,000 francs. The interesting thing about it: Silberschmidt stated that the money came exclusively from small donors. In other words: from people who make less than 15,000 francs available. You have given the FDP politician the largest election campaign budget to date. (rba)
